Welcome to mapstherapists.org! While using this site, some personal data may be collected and processed.

Please take a moment to review our data protection and privacy policy. If you have questions or concerns that are not addressed here, feel free to email us at support@mapsbcorp.com.

What data is collected by this site and why?

User profile data

In order to register an account with mapstherapists.org, you (the user) must provide a name, email address, username, and password.

Optional profile data includes: time zone, profile description, profile picture, partial address (city, country), additional names, interests, personal webpage, ICQ number, Skype ID, AIM ID, Yahoo ID, MSN ID, ID number, institution, department, landline phone, mobile phone, and full address.

To review the profile data that you have entered in your account, simply click on your name in the top right of any page then select “Profile.”

Your registration data (name, email, username, password) is required to identify you on our site. It allows us to assign you access to our non-public content and helps keep your account secure. Your email address is used to communicate sensitive data and to inform you of important site notifications. The notifications you receive can be managed in your account settings (click on your name in the top right, then “Preferences,” then “Notification preferences”).

All additional profile data is entirely optional. It can be useful for networking with other site users, but you are welcome to leave this information blank. Be aware that any information submitted in your profile data could be viewed by other site users.

Course data

Your interactions with the courses and content on this website are saved and linked to your account. This includes, but is not limited to: course enrollment, pages viewed, quiz/survey responses, and any content submission (including posts).

This site is designed to be an interactive teaching and learning environment. Course data helps us keep a digital record of your participation and contribution to this community.
Website logs

This site automatically generates logs of all user interactions. This includes both public interactions (such as posting comments or creating courses) and private interactions (such as logins or page views). Our website logs record the dates and times of each interaction, the users involved, and the Internet Protocol address of the router making the requests. An Internet Protocol (IP) address is a number that identifies your device or network on the internet. It encodes approximate locational data of the user and information regarding the Internet Service Provider (ISP) used.

Data that you choose to delete from this site may also be captured and stored in website logs.

Site logs help us protect against cyber-attacks and troubleshoot site problems. Any data received from these logs is accessible only to the site managers and administrators.

This site requires the use of “cookies” to function fully. Cookies are small text files that are generated by a website and temporarily stored on your device. This site will periodically make requests to access the cookies it has generated. They contain data that is used by mapstherapists.org to identify you.

Unless your device has been compromised in some way, other websites can neither access nor detect the cookies generated by this site. At any time, you may view and/or delete the cookies stored on your device via the settings in your web browser.

Cookies are used by the majority of websites that require a login. On this site cookies are used to identify users which helps minimize requests for login credentials. This improves site performance, enhances security, and minimizes data transfer.

Who has access to my data?

We encourage mapstherapists.org to be a space that facilitates cooperation and networking within our community. At the same time, we do our best to respect users’ right to privacy. Consequently, the extent to which your data is accessible to other site users is largely determined by how you choose to interact with the site.

Public interactions are those which involve active publishing or posting of content. A public interaction should reasonably be expected to be viewed or consumed by other site users. These interactions contain a link to your account. Any person able to view the interaction content may use this link to access your profile data. The information under “User details” on your profile page determines what will be displayed.

All other site interactions are classified as private. This includes, but is not limited to: logins, course enrollment, pages viewed, and quiz/survey responses. Private site interactions cannot be viewed by other site users unless they have elevated permissions (IT staff, managers, course authors).

Site managers and administrators have access to all the data listed above (including website logs).

Will my data be shared with third parties?

We do not share personal data collected from mapstherapists.org with any third parties beyond MAPS and MPBC.

How will my data be used?

Periodically we may analyze user data internally to help make improvements to this site. This analysis is neither shared with nor processed by any third party.

How will my data be stored and protected?

This site and the associated user data is stored on a private server that is managed and maintained by MPBC. Our server is hosted by Amazon Web Services. Administrator access to the server and user database is restricted to our IT staff. Maintaining the site ourselves gives greater transparency and protection against intermediate services collecting, manipulating, or processing your data.

All data transmitted to and from mapstherapists.org is sent using Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption. This is the industry standard for secure data transmission.

Note that we have no control over data on your local network. It is good practice to never use public Wi-Fi for secure data transfer (anything that requires a password login) and to ensure a strong wpa2 password is set on any private Wi-Fi networks you use.

How can I manage my personal data?

We honor all requests for users to review any personal data we have stored, as it relates to them. Moreover, we are happy to comply with any user’s request to have their personal data deleted in accordance with the “right to be forgotten.” Requests may be emailed to support@mapsbcorp.com.
